The film is historically-based and set in a particularly turbulent time in Ireland's history. Moreover, it's an exceptionally powerful and moving film that has strong contemporary relevance and is profoundly affecting audiences worldwide. The Wind that Shakes the Barley recently had a special screening at the Sydney Film Festival and was a complete sell out. It also received a two minute standing ovation at the Melbourne Film Festival.
